Young Directors

Our first ever Young Director's show is Six the Musical! Coming June 2027!

What is BEAP's Young Director's programme?

New for the 2026-27 season, the Young Director's programme is the chance for you to take the reins. We know that our older group is oozing with talent, and we want to give you the opportunity to let those creative juices flow.

The Young Director's programme will allow one student (Y12+) to direct their own show across a year long period, with a cast and crew made up entirely of our Big BEAPERs! The Young Director will also lead a creative team of other students to bring their vision for life. The team will have access to the BEAP team throughout, and have constant support in any way they need to ensure their final product matches their vision.

How does the programme work?

On the years that we run this programme, we will take applications from any Y12+ students who wish to direct their own show. Shows have a maximum cast limit of 10, and those applying will be asked about how they plan on producing the show.

Once a Young Director and a show have been chosen, the search for a creative team and a cast can begin. A 10 month rehearsal period will then start, with rehearsals based around Wednesday nights once a month, and occasional weekend rehearsals, depending on cast availability. Rehearsals will not coincide with any other BEAP rehearsals, and will not disrupt exam season so all students are free to join.

Auditions

This year, we will be taking video auditions for Six. Each auditionee can audition for a maximum of two characters, and will perform both a verse and chorus from their queen's song as well as a verse and chorus from a pop song by one of their queens' inspirations. Video auditions will be due by the 25th August.

Cost

This will be the standard Beap charge for a course of £200. Obviously with a cast of only six this will not generate enough income to put on a show of the high production value that Beap expects nor cover extra rehearsals that we plan but Beap is fully committed to this project and is investing in its young people so will ensure that all costs are met and Six will be as outstanding in every way for all the students involved and audience watching.
Once the show has been cast we will ask for £75 deposit and the remaining balance will be due end of June.
This will sit outside of any Beap discount scheme but the free scholarship places will remain for any student who is eligible for pupil premium.

Our Young Director for 2026-27 is our very own Albie!

Albie has been working with BEAP for over 5 years now, and is the ideal director to help us launch this new initiative. He brings with him extensive experience in not only direction, but also in choreographing and vocal coaching, and we have full trust that he will deliver an excellent show to kick off this exciting new project!

Here's what he has to say:

The Creative Team

We are currently searching for an Assistant Director and a Backstage manager to join the creative team for Six! We are taking applications from any Year 12+ students who want to try their hand at directing or who would rather be the boss behind the scenes. If you are interested, register your interest by clicking this link and we will send you all the information you need!

And this is just the beginning for the creative team! For future years, we plan on bringing in a vocal coach, an assistant choreographer, a musical director and more!
